Kingdom Animalia
2021.
The women in these paintings are clothed in aristocratic garments from throughout art history. Faces are omitted, blurred, or obstructed, symbolizing a kind of transcendentalism. Where are they going when they leave their bodies? What do they bring back with them? Is it more difficult to feel one’s animal nature underneath such extravagant fabrics? Underneath corsets? And what of power?
