The Black Universe

2020.

This series is inspired by ancient human life, philosophy (especially relating to Zen Buddhism), and the color black as it relates to the cosmos and emotional states. Themes include womanhood, rebirth, and altered states of consciousness.

“The figures I paint are humans and goddesses throughout art history hybridized with modern women. They are philosopher-goddesses. They move through the world and occupy various selves and states of mind. I mean for them to show the timeless depths of ourselves.”
