Botanical Gardens & Greenhouses

Polaroid taken by the artist at Lucile Halsell Conservatory, San Antonio Botanical Garden

2023

These loose, expressive paintings document the artist’s visits to greenhouses and botanical gardens, particularly the San Antonio Botanical Garden. They represent regeneration and tranquility as well as passion and vivacity. Miller is particularly drawn to tropical biomes. The artist values biodiversity for environmental reasons as well as aesthetic ones. Greenhouses function as a kind of sanctuary, with spiritual and therapeutic benefits. San Antonio is her hometown and these gardens have a special significance. She conveys its humid atmosphere and exuberant energy using bold colors and gestural brushstrokes.
